Garantie de Construction Résidentielle (GCR) is the new non-profit organization (NPO) that becomes the only administrator authorized by the RBQ to administer the guarantee plan as of January 1, 2015.

As of that date, the current administrators (Abritat and Qualité Habitation) will no longer be authorized to accredit contractors.

Please note that to benefit from the new financial limits of the guarantee, the beneficiary must ensure that both of the following conditions are met:

  1. construction work began on or after January 1, 2015, and
  2. the purchase contract was signed on or after January 1, 2015.

The goal of the regulatory reform is to provide better protection for buyers of new homes and condominiums and to safeguard the interests of beneficiaries. It also aims to eliminate any conflict of interest, or even the appearance of a conflict of interest, between the current guarantee plan administrators and contractors.
